Hi, my name is Colin Beere, I am the owner and "teacher" at Mobile Mini Class.

The goal of MMC is to provide highly tailored STEM and practical maker-space learning support to homeschooling families. Working directly for parents instead of in a school means I can better understand a parent's needs and hopes for their children's growth. And by creating a "mini" class size, the choice of projects,  instruction style and methods of encouragement can be very highly individualised for each student's pace and character.

The second, but equally important goal of MMC is to provide classes large enough to have real social value for homeschooling children. To consistently fill a class with 5 or more students will require the participation of  multiple families. Students will meet new kids and then work with them designing and building engaging projects over many weeks, hopefully building significant friendships.

Why STEM and practical engineering?

My parents met at University and both started their career working on the prototype of Concorde. My mother later became a technology and physics teacher, my sister is a special needs teacher, my brother is an engineer. In school, I competed in and won regional and national engineering contests. I have always, designed things, built things and fixed things.

When I was homeschooling my own children I realised that providing adequate equipment, materials, tools, software, know-how  and space to properly let them explore their interests was a significant allocation of time and money. Below is a photo my two children's maker space at home. Not everyone wants that in the corner of the family room.

So in creating MMC I hope to offer support where it has the most value and adds the most convenience for parents. For example there is a useful synergy between maker-projects benefiting from much longer than usual class lengths, and providing parents with a useable block of time "sans enfant".
